High Holidays
High Holidays
August 21, 2020 starts the month of Elul, the month immediately preceding Tishrei in the Jewish calendar (when Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot all occur).

It's an important time.

We prepare for the High Holidays during this entire month:

Blowing the shofar

Every day except shabbat, it's a common Jewish practice to blow the shofar during the month of Elul (except the last day before Rosh Hashana). In our congregation, even though we don't have daily services (and during Coronavirus time, we're not going to start!), we'll ease ourselves into this custom by blowing the shofar twice a week in Park Ridge!

It will allow us to get together (with masks and social distancing, of course!) outside, and to hear the four notes of the shofar (tekiya, shevarim, terra'a, tekiya gedola), breaking up our screen-centered lives.

Here's the schedule:

Sun Aug 23 11 am TBS front porch Shofar
Tues Aug 25 6 pm TBS front Porch Shofar
Sun Aug 30 11 am Depot Square Shofar
Tues Sept 1 6 pm TBS front Porch Shofar
Sun Sept 6 11 am Veterans' Park Shofar
Tues Sept 8 6 pm TBS front porch Shofar
Sat night Sept 12 Slichot online
Sun Sept 13 11 am Depot Square Shofar
Tues Sept 15 6 pm TBS front Porch Shofar

Unlike Zoom, it is not interactive. You will only see and hear the service from the Bimah. You will not be able to see or talk to anyone else.
